Term 1, week 9, 4th April 2024.
Principal's Report
The school year is well and truly in full swing with many wonderful curricular and cross-curricular opportunities occurring in our classrooms.
As a school we have been working on adopting the Department for Education, Children and Young People’s (DECYP’s) new values. At the centre is ‘Connection’ and we have adopted the motto of ‘A Connected Community’ to describe our school community and its important relationship with our wider Bothwell community. Underpinning this are our four key values:
Responsibility – Be responsible: step up and do what’s right.
Courage – Be courageous: accept challenges and embrace opportunities.
Respect – Be respectful: care for ourselves, each other, and the environment.
Growth – Be a learner: aspire to learn, and improve, even when it’s hard.
We have ordered some new signage to be displayed at the front of the school and new values posters will be displayed around the school in Term Two.
Thank you to all of our Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students who participated in NAPLAN over the past two weeks. 100% of our students participated in the four tests and this is also testament to our excellent school attendance and participation rate.
Our students recently brought home their Term One progress reports. The reports provide an important indication of student work habits. To recognise outstanding achievements, students who received ‘all excellent’ ratings on their report will be invited to a special end of term Principal’s Morning Tea.
Teachers have had conversations with families where any student has received a ‘needs attention’ rating. We encourage all families to have a conversation with their young person regarding their reports and families are encouraged to contact your child’s teachers for more information about what is needed for a student to demonstrate improved ratings at the next reporting phase. In Term Two, the reports will also show progress against the Australian Curriculum or a student’s Learning Plan.
Our senior leaders have continued to have opportunities to demonstrate their connection with the community in participating in a forum with Kat Cullen from the Central Highlands Council. The students then led a process of seeking feedback from all of the students in the school around what they would like to see in the future for the Bothwell township. Our leaders have really grown in confidence since the start of the year and are now taking the lead in the organisation of our Celebration Assemblies. A big thank you to Mrs Jessie Byers for her leadership of this group.
We are thrilled to share with you that an important launch event will occur on Thursday May 16th. All of our Bothwell students, teachers, families and friends are cordially invited to the launch of our Agricultural & Year 11/12 Facilities.
The Agricultural Facilities are set to play a key role in positing Bothwell District High School as a centre for excellence in the teaching of agricultural studies. The Facilities also support the important revitalisation of our School Farm.
The Year 11/12 Building enables our students to extend their learning on site post year 10, and we are looking forward to growing our provision and suite of year 9-12 offerings for students now and into the future.
We look forward to seeing you at the Official Opening to celebrate these important milestones with us.
The Bothwell District High School Association is an important committee of parents and carers who have a voice and work together to benefit the school. On Tuesday 26 March our School Association held their Annual General Meeting, a huge thank you to everyone who was able to attend. We would like to congratulate our Official Office Bearers on their re-election: Association Chair - Susan Webb, Secretary - Sarah Barrington and Treasurer - Katrina Brazendale. Together with out community, parent and staff reps, the Association is looking strong. If you would like to get in contact with the Association to share your ideas or views, contact: BDHSAssoc@gmail.com.
Kind Regards,
Erika Boas
